Dominic McIver Lopes is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and University Killam Professor at the University of British Columbia. He has authored a dozen books and many papers on pictures and their values, new technologies in the arts, the nature of art, and the nature and significance of aesthetic value. His recent work provides frameworks for modelling the social conditions that underlie varieties of aesthetic and artistic agency, and his 2024 book Aesthetic Injustice highlights connections between social injustice and harms to people in their capacities as aesthetic agents. He is now writing on a cross-cultural history, Pluralism and Its Discontents: An Episodic History of Aesthetics. He is past president of the American Society for Aesthetics and the Canadian Philosophical Association and past chair of the board of the American Philosophical Association.
